JOHNSON & JONSON INTERVIEW
The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP: Now the self titled album Johnson & Jonson dropped, and you got a few good looks in terms of reviews. How are you feeling about the response of the album?

BLU: Great. Fools are catching on hard and  the wave is moving strong. Even though our core has had the record, those who haven’t seem to appreciate it greatly at the very least.

MAINFRAME: It’s dope to know that it’s getting out there and all the positive feedback is great energy that we've been redirecting towards new music.

CHAMP: Now Blu and Mainframe; you guys worked together in '06. What so good about the chemistry you guys had to fuse heads together and create an album?

BLU: Friendship first fans second. Creative minds think alike plus, as usual, we weren’t satisfied with the hip hop we would buy, so we decided to step in hard in a direction neither of us have taken.

MAINFRAME: Just a natural vibe. When making music there shouldn't be any pressure. When I get in the lab with Blu we both just have a lot of fun and do our thing.

CHAMP: What was the direction of the album because when hearing it, you can kind of sense that it's 70's inspired?

BLU: Definitely. We were inspired by the warm feel and the songs we chop etc. As I said, we weren’t really banging hip hop, and the shit we did bang was early nineties shit; old Stretch & Bobitto Freestyles and shit plus GLK would slide through with heat all the time and Bobby Soul

MAINFRAME: We were focusing on creating a "Future Classic" meaning relevant vocals, topics, & raps with a timeless foundation being the music, samples, and production.

CHAMP: On the cover you guys got the red porcelain baby. What is the symbolic meaning of that?

BLU: Jon, Mainframe had a son and I had a son, this album.

MAINFRAME: Boom!

CHAMP Now who else do we got featured on the album?

BLU: CashUs The King (from The Palms) & Leimert, Bobo Lamb The Great (from Yo Moma's Place), Miguel Jontel the Voice, Gonja Sufi The Master, DMenace The Menace, And Be Young The CuzzOh.

MAINFRAME: and Jo Blo ... FREE JO BLO!

CHAMP: People are comparing you style to Hi-Tek, Kweli, and Dilla. How does it to feel to be compared to such credible artists?

BLU: This must be for Mainframe

MAINFRAME: Word. Its dope but yet humbling. In the lab I'm not really trying to sound like anyone else just really trying to be different. Blu & I have so much music and styles on deck that when we drop our
next album or song you might be like "Yo son this sounds like The Beatles or Fela or Rhamellzee ... it’s all good"

CHAMP: Now is there a single you guys are pushing next?

BLU: A few from the album, a few exclusives and an EP.The Jay Jay run has just begun

MAINFRAME: Yeah like Blu says we got a whole lot of J&J music that we will be dropping.  MaMa Told Me Hold On John , The Only Way Half A Knot , some remixes and crazy collabs coming soon !

CHAMP: What else can we expect from not only Johnson & Jonson, but Blu and Mainframe individually?

BLU: More music very very soon, solo's,comp's,production, records, short films, etc. The world brudda the world

MAINFRAME: The World ... It’s yours!

UP ALL NIGHT - JOHNSON & JONSON
