Jet Lag Ash Interview CHAMP: What’s poppin with you at the moment brother? Jet Lag Ash: Chillin, just movin’ and just did the Rock N Roll show with Jim and Juelz and we just on the road movin’ man CHAMP: What was the response to the show last night? Jet Lag Ash: Ah man, retarded. Freekey did his thing, Sen did his thing, Jim did his thing, Juelz and it was good. We goin’ in a good direction with Dame Dash CHAMP: Your production game is off the chain. I had no idea at first that you were behind the I Luv Stuntin that’s on the Hell Rell album. Now how long have you been producin’ for homey? Jet Lag Ash: Years man, shout out to my man Superstar O. Keep your ears open and you’ll see what’s goin’ on CHAMP: Of course you hail from the east side of Harlem and was around a lot of important people in the game right now. How was the vibe like back then compared to how it is now with hiphop in your eyes and the transition you’ve seen over the past years? Jet Lag Ash: I mean, it’s a beautiful thing man with the new direction I don’t know what’s goin’ on sometimes. When I look at it like growin’ up with Cam and Mase, and Bloodshed (rest in peace), back then it was Clue tapes to find was hot in these streets. Now it’s so much avenues out there and now everybody think they hot. People can’t take criticism. Everybody just disses a person for what they doin. Even grandmothers hatin CHAMP: (laughs) Definitely 100% with you on that. You’re officially 730. With the movement are you strictly producing or are you spittin’ as well? Jet Lag Ash: I do it all man. Rap, produce, A & R, marketing, promotions, you need me to be a chauffer I’m a chauffer. Nobody wears just one title and that’s why we move the way we move CHAMP: Now you and Sen aka Oooh, are a duo and have projects out like Americas Burden. I wanted to get the history between you two and what’s the chemistry like when you guys kick it in the studio? Jet Lag Ash: With him it’s like magic in the studio. It’s friendly competition. It’s two brothers goin’ at it and just goin at it. We be like “you came with that hot rhyme? Aight” and it’s back and fourth CHAMP: People don’t know yet but I’m tellin’ you. When you and Sen are on a joint together it’s a problem! What joints have you produced incase the people don’t know in terms of your resume? Jet Lag Ash: My first joint was The Whistle Song with Juelz. Brought over to the studio and like 2 days later boom! The Christmas album out right now, I did the intro to that. That’s all over the internet. My first joint was What’s the Beat without Bass with Freekey, and there’s a lot of things people are gonna hear right now and when you hear it, you gon be like God damn and my phone is gonna be off the hook and that’s when I change the numbers and just give you the number you know CHAMP: (lol) that’s what it is. They only want what’s poppin’, but they don’t wanna go through the growth and notice when you were you know Jet Lag Ash: Nah they don’t know you then but once you get down they start poppin up CHAMP: Now for all my producer heads out there that wanna know. Are you sample heavy or more original based ‘cause I know a lot of people say with the originals you get more paper off that rather than the sample or do you just play off the ear? Jet Lag Ash: Yeah, I don’t care if it’s sample or no sample, but it’s gotta be hot. I prefer the no sample ‘cause it’s easier to clear and then when that publishin’ come back, whooo, straight to the bank and it’s a beautiful thing and you ain’t gotta share it with nobody CHAMP: What kinda tools can we catch Ash messin’ with in the studio? Jet Lag Ash: I mean the MPCs, Fruity Loops and stuff like that. It’s real simple man CHAMP: What project are you currently workin’ on at the moment? Jet Lag Ash: Freekey Zekey album will be out in May and I’m tryna get some joints on Jim album and I’m just hopin’ I make that cut, Skull Gang definitely and Sen City and a lot of projects coming CHAMP: We got some new music in the game like the Kid Cudi joint – Jet Lag Ash: Oh he’s fire CHAMP: Yeah maaaaaaaan Jet Lag Ash: He’s fire man, that’s what I like to hear personally like that guys goin’ left field CHAMP: I was just talkin’ to the dude that produced that beat and we we’re choppin’ it up and he’s on that new music sound as well and what I’m sayin’ is we got that new sound, but it’s hot! Like you said it’s comin’ out the left field and it’s not something like the hip hop we’re use to but it’s hot and we love it. Now with you I can see that sound coming with I Luv Stuntin, Beat Without Bass, and it has a new type of sound to it that’s futuristic. Is there more of that we can expect from Jet Lag Ash? Jet Lag Ash: You know what I mean, you know what I’m talkin’ bout and you know that sound. We were in the club the other day and they pulled that up like 7 times. Like you really gotta listen to beats when you’re drunk or high and be like whoo and you know the beats bangin’ when it got you two steppin’ CHAMP: What else can we expect from Jet Lag Ash? Jet Lag Ash: A whole bunch of videos man, we re did the One Republic – Apologize and you know Got It For 25 and we just gon’ be shootin’ a lot of videos. First and foremost gotta shout out Freekey for even givin’ the boy a shot. We been friends before the mustaches and beards man I LUV STUNTIN - HELL RELL FT. SEN (PRODUCED BY JET LAG ASH)
