J.U.S.T.I.C.E. LEAGUE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
CHAMP MAGAZINE
The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP:We got just undeniably the illest composers ever in the building right now, what’s poppin?

J.U.S.T.I.C.E League: What’s happening?!

CHAMP: I wanna actually get familiar with who’s on the team so if y’all can introduce the official roster under J.U.S.T.I.C.E league

Rook: The official roster is Rook, Colione, and Kenny

CHAMP: Now you guys have produced for a slew of artists, from Juelz to Young Buck, to Jeezy, Rick Ross, and many more. What joint do y’all agree on that really put y’all on the map?

Rook: That’s a good question man. There’s a few joints man, we got a Grammy from Mary J Blidge that help put us on the map. The single She Got It with 2Pistols, Rick Ross’ singles. We did Maybach Music one and two. A lot of those songs put us on the map. I think it’s a whole body of work that really helped out with that.

Kenny:I think it’s really our consistency to stay on. Our consistency to do good music so we just consistent with it, and we heading to the top.

CHAMP: Of course you guys tore up the Deeper Than Rap album. You did Magnificent, Yacht Club, Rich of Cocaine, and of course Maybach Music Pt. 2. On the joints you guys got that passionate feeling in them. What kind of response based on those joints off the album?

Rook: We’ve been getting a lot of good reviews online, and just from people we’ve been meeting and one of the main things that a lot of people tell us is that we just put so much soul into our music and that’s always a good thing to hear. It’s the truth. We put a lot of physical work into our tracks and we just try and go the extra mile to make it soulful.

CHAMP: Where are you guys based out of?

Rook: Currently right now, we’re based in Atlanta, Georgia, but we’re all from Tampa, Florida.

CHAMP: For all my producer heads, what are some of the tools we can catch you guys using to make a beat?

Rook: We can’t go anywhere without Logic 7. We ain’t on the 8 yet because a lot of our sounds is compatible with the old Logic, but we’re gonna end up switching over, ‘cause we gotta keep up with technology, but we definitely can’t live without Logic. We can’t live without Easy Drummer, Software Synths.

CHAMP: Out of all the joints you guys produced what’s the one that stands out?

Rook: We probably each got different ones.

Kenny: I love “Magnificent” man. It changes once in awhile but right now that magnificent is just so smooth. You gotta love it

Colione: Coliones favorite is the “Maybach Music Pt.1”. We got an opportunity to work with one of the top rapper in the game or is the top rapper in the game Jay-Z on that joint. When we came up with that song it was like “Wow we really doing something with people in the industry right now”.

CHAMP: Definitely. Of course that was a banger for sure. Who are some of the artists you’re working with right now?

Colione: Currently we just got out of the studio with Plies. Did some great joints with Plies! His album’s gon’ be phenomenal. We did some stuff with OJ Da Juiceman, we did a remix for Latoya Luckett, Lil Waynes rock album called The Rebirth, working with Drake. He’s coming out with an album and his shit’s gon be crazy.

Rook: We got Fabolous, Mary J Blidge, the list goes on man.

Colione: When people see J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, they gon’ say them dudes are consistent.

CHAMP: Would you guys say you’re sample heavy or more original based producers?

Colione: We do it all man. From Rock – Hip hop started from samples so we never wanna take that away because some of the greatest music that ever came out, was back in the ‘60’s, 70’s, and that’s when it was like real live, with orchestras and stuff like that. You can’t really reproduce that so you have to go back to the samples unless you hire like a full orchestra in the studio and nowadays studios are compact, so we kinda wanna keep that live sound going. We’ll listen to some of the old school music and really study it and bring it into a new style like what we’re doing but we do it all man, rock, pop, r&b, rap. We’re known for our hip hop and r & b so we’re branching out, and we’re gonna have some pop stuff and rock stuff

CHAMP: You guys actually had 2Pistols (who was on CHAMP Radio) signed with you guys through a production deal?

Colione: We had 2 Pistols as an artist. He’s not our artist anymore. We did an album with him through Universal Republic and that was our first artist and we learned a lot from that. We got other artists too.

CHAMP: Who would they be?

J.U.S.T.I.C.E League: We got Supershow. All of our artists are from Tampa, Florida or somewhere in Florida. Supershow is from Haiti but he lives in Tampa. He’s got this new style no ones ever heard of and when we started working with him, it was just something new. We got an artist by the name of Prime. He’s a young dude from Tampa. He’s 19 and coming with some heat and then we got Slim E from Orlando, Florida. He’s got a lil movement going right now so we’re moving.

CHAMP: What else can we expect from J.U.S.T.I.C.E League?

Kenny: Among the other things  and projects we’ve already mentioned, we’re just gonna keep it moving and try and branch out as much as possible. Were trying to touch a few projects normally producers in our lane wouldn’t be touching. We’re tryina get on Katey Perry and artists like that away from urban music, but still keep our roots in hip hop and r & b and keep on trying to get better.

CHAMP: With that being said in terms of branching off to the pop genre, do you guys have a lot of that in the catalogue or are you starting to implement into the catalogue you guys already have?

Colione: I would say both. We got a lot in the catalogue and we work at it everyday

CHAMP: For the people who wanna flow up on J.U.S.T.I.C.E League and catch up with any current events going on with you guys. Where can people catch you guys?

Kenny: We’re on that Twitter right now man. You can find us all individually on that. Twitter.com/kennybarto, twitter.com/colionejl, twitter.com/rookbeats, and we pretty much like update it everyday amd you can follow what we doing and what we working on and what not. We also got the myspace.com/officialjustice. We also been live streaming online via Ustream. So if you’re following us on Twitter, we’ll be sending out updates periodically and letting everyone know that we’ll be streaming live in the studio and it’s a pretty cool experience and you’re able to see us working closely with an artist via Ustream.

Rook: You can actually see some of the stuff we’ve done on Ustream already by going to ustream.tv/justiceleague. You can see the previous recordings.
