Stay Gettin It
Stay Gettin’
The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP: What’s Goodie Stay Gettin'? What is y'all up to this current moment?

STAY GETTIN’: Everything is good. Right now we're grinding with the beats...and working hard at getting our artist "HEAVYGOLD" poppin!!.

CHAMP: So y'all hail from Baltimore and actually met up by accident at the barbershop. How did that happen?

STAY GETTIN’: LOL....actually to make a long story short...I (Kuntre) used to rap and play my songs in the barber shop I worked at. Mike Milz overheard one of my songs Black Rain and couldn’t believe it was me, and at that time he was very interested  in production, so from there our relationship just grew, thus the birth of STAY GETTIN...LOL.

CHAMP: Now other than I think Dru Hill, I haven't heard of a lot of cats from B-More. How’s the scene out there hip hop wise?

STAY GETTIN’: The scene here is good. It's actually a lot better than it was a few years ago, artist here are really steppin' up their material. Being that its a strong "club" music scene here, a lot of hip hop artist get overshadowed and feel to get recognized or considered you have to make "club/hip hop" records, but that’s changing slowly but surely.

CHAMP: Now how long have you guys been making beats for and was the sound you guys are identified with now the initial sound you guys had when starting?

STAY GETTIN’: We've been a production team for 6 or so years...our first official placement, as far as industry, came in 2004. Our sound at that time was real sample heavy, and that fitted perfectly with Camron and Dipset back then. Don’t get me wrong we still sample, but back then our sound was considered "Dipset", so when we shopped to other artist, their first response would be,..."This sounds like a Camron beat"...and we would say, "Naah this is a Stay Gettin' beat, Camron just happen to pick it"...lol.

CHAMP: You guys were on your grizzy and made trips to New York in the blistering cold?

STAY GETTIN’: Yeah, we made our weekly pilgrimage to N.Y because at that time you had to go where the action was. We would go up and sit in front of labels, studios, etc. anywhere we thought artists would be at.

CHAMP: So how did you guys hook up with Kay Slay?
STAY GETTIN’: We met Kay in a funny way...Kay was working on his 2nd album Pain from the Game and at that time we were in the mix with Duke Da God, he had a lot of our beats, Kay heard some of them and was feelin' em, but Duke Da God wasn't letting Kay know who we were, we were like Duke's secret weapon..Lol..Long story short. Duke falls asleep with our beat CD in his hands and Kay snatches it..lol..So Duke had to officially introduce us to Kay Slay because all of our contact info was on the CD..lol.. We ended up doing 9 tracks for that album, but only 5 made it. That was a blessing.

CHAMP: After getting the beats out to Kay. Another Harlem homey got a hold of your beats. What was y'all reaction when you heard Cam was peepin' your stuff?

STAY GETTIN’: That was a crazy feeling. We were actually at the barber shop, and we get the call from Duke Da God....he's says "Y’all got 3 joints on Cam's "Purple Haze" album...we went crazy!!!!..lol...that was a good feelin'....

CHAMP: How did the whole thing with Def Jam happen?

STAY GETTIN’: First off i gotta say R.I.P. DJ K-SWIFT, she played a part in that whole situation. She managed the artist "Young Leek” and he had a local hit at the time and his buzz was growing, he was only 15 at the time. She wanted us to produce a record for him that was more hip hop and since that's what we do, she introduced us and we went to the studio..the rest is history..we signed him to our production company, 2 weeks later we're signed to Def Jam.

CHAMP: Now you guys have worked with a lot of artists who would be the top 5 you've worked with?

STAY GETTIN’: I would have to say Camron, Lil Jon, David Banner, Papoose, & Bun B.

CHAMP: Any artists you'd like to work with?

STAY GETTIN’: Jay-Z of course..lol. T.I., 50, Luda and Lupe Fiasco.

CHAMP: For all my producer heads, what kind of equipment do you guys use?

STAY GETTIN’: We use the MPC 2000 and XL, MOTIF, FANTOM, PROTOOLS HD and a few THOUSAND RECORDS..Lol.

CHAMP: You guys also got an artist by the name of Young Leek. What's poppin' with him?
STAY GETTIN’: Right now Leek is in the process of going over to Epic Records, we're about to work something out with Sean Kingston...This should be a good look.

CHAMP: What projects are you working on now?

STAY GETTIN’: We're working with our new artist Heavygold. Look out for him. We just finished his new mix cd IF NOT THIS, THEN WHAT? and it's hosted by "THE EMPIRE"...

CHAMP: What else can we expect from Stay Gettin'?

STAY GETTIN’: Look out for upcoming tracks on 50, Young Buck, Camron, 100 Grand Man and hopefully Young Jeezy, our fingers crossed on that one...Lol.

CHAMP: Anything else you want the people to know?

STAY GETTIN’: Just want to thank you guys for the opportunity to be in your magazine also you can hit us up at MYSPACE.COM/STAYGETTINENT thanks for the support!!!
