Day 26 Exclusive Interview
Robert
CHAMP MAGAZINE
Nathan “The Boy Hollywood” Adom

CHAMP: Forever in a Day is just about to drop. How are you feeling about the anticipation of the album?

Day 26: April 14 man Forever in a Day.It’s going down. It’s like the hottest album ever man I’m telling you. We really didn’t get to touch the club on the first album but don’t get it wrong we singing singing and doing them club records and doing something new. People will sacrifice their vocals for a hit, but we decided not to do that.

CHAMP: Watching the show, you guys were determined to find a new sound yet still have that Day 26 brand remain in your music. Do you feel you were able to accomplish that on this album?

Day 26: Most definitely. I think everybody was saying the same thing anyway you know I’m sayin’? It wasn’t really hard. The argument was the hardest part everything else came easy.

CHAMP: Of course on the creative level I would say that you guys were brilliant from Stadium Music, to Bipolar, to Babymaker. What was it that you wanted the listeners to take away from the album after listening to it?

Day 26: When you sacrifice your vocals for a hot club record you only want people to sing it in the club but we found a way to fuse them both. I just want people to leave out dancing. We just wanted to be ourselves. A lot of people compared us to Boys II Men, New Edition, 112, but I think on this album it’s gonna be stupid, because I know they’re not gonna sitdown after listening to it.

CHAMP. Who do we got featured on the album?

Day 26: We got T-Pain, Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Yung Joc. Of course on production we got B.Cox, we got Ne-Yo, we got a new producer named Blaze, new producer named T-Major.

CHAMP: I also wanted to get the meaning behind the album title Forever in a Day. What does that stem from?

Day 26: If you ask this question to the group you’re probably gonna get 5 different answers. The most logical to me means man, timeless music. That’s what you hear forever right here. It definitely means timeless music

CHAMP: Looking at the show, there were a lot of frustrations and a few scraps in the process of the album. Do you feel that brought you guys closer or are there certain things that won’t ever be the same within the group?

Day 26: The only thing that will never be the same is the fact that we let something like that get to us that bad. At the end of the day the fights made us stronger and it’s normal. We’re family. Were on a reality tv show. People get on those shows and the real point is people wanna see what you go through, and people wanna see the problems, and people wanna see you grow and overcome. If there’s nothing wrong, I don’t think it makes good tv for nobody. Everything we went through is real and genuine you know what I’m saying. I’m not gonna say it’s gon make us better I’m just gonna say it is what it is. The only thing that really matters to me dog is the beginning and the end.If I came from the beginning to the end the middle don’t really matter. If the beginning we bad and the ending we make up that’s all that really matters.

CHAMP: It looked like Que was having some issues. Where you guys able to identify the problem or was it whatever that was shown on air?

Day 26: There was a lot of different reasons. There was some problems behind the scenes that they didn’t show. They didn’t actually show or elaborate on things so no one knew but it goes like that.

CHAMP: You and Mike seem to be the voices of reason and after seeing the failures of the previous Making the Bands. What was going through your mind when all this was happening?

Day 26: Prior to this deal I had a deal with Wyclef and I had a couple of deals before. I was with a group and that was the same thing that happened with Wyclef. I went to New York and we thought we were on top but I was the only one who knew we still had to grind and go harder until we fell off one by one leaving me hanging to the point where Wyclef got mad. Even though he believed in my talent he didn’t wanna invest more money into this so to me it was looking like the same situation all over again. Diddy believed in us but we couldn’t get it right and he was gonna shelf us. I’ve seen the shelf on Bad Boy and you don’t wanna be on that.

CHAMP: (laughs)

DAY 26: (Laughs). I’ve seen the shelf on there with countless artists you don’t wanna be up there.

CHAMP: Now the single. Imma Put it On featuring P. Diddy and Yung Joc is a real big joint. Why was that selected as the single for the album?

Day 26: We wanted to show more swagger on a first single and this song got so much swag. Everything we was looking for in a first single was there and we were all singing. Not to mention when we were playing this for Diddy he got up out his seat. Usually he sits down goes through his blackberry but when he heard this record he stood up out his chair and started dancing and that’s when we was like we got one this is our first single right here.

CHAMP: You guys are on a promo tour right now can we expect you guys to hit up Toronto any time soon?

Day 26: This might sound bad. Anyone out there aspiring to be an artist, singer or anything like that please don’t listen to this part ‘cause I’m wrong for it. I don’t know what be going on. I just get in the tour bus, pack my clothes, get on stage and back to where I’m supposed to be going. A lot of the times I don’t even know what day of the week it is like I have no idea.

CHAMP: What else can we expect from Day 26 throughout the year?

Day 26: When y’all don’t see us on tv we still working. Willie got a womans clothing line. Me and Que are starting a clothing line called Emos. It’s like emotional wear, plus Day 26 has our own shoes out through Fila. Brian has his own record label where everyone in the group plays a part in the label. I’m a writer, Wills the a&r of the label. Big Mike works on the marketing side of it, and its like we all got a job. We got a lot going on man and we want y’all to be looking out. I’m looking for movie scripts and tryna get into the whole scary movie thing. I’ve been wanting to be in scary movies y whole life
