Jacki O Exclusive Interview CHAMP: What are you up to at the very current moment? Jacki-O: Just watching BET. CHAMP: What show were you watching? JAcki-O: Freestyle Friday. CHAMP: Little Red Riding Hood just dropped. What’s the response you’re getting in regards to the album so far? Jacki-O: I’ve been getting a great response actually, seeing as though a lot of the songs that are on the album were actually on my mixtape. Fans still welcomed it and I got a great response from it. I am working on a third album now and just getting that out there. I had a lot of material that piled up that I wasn’t able to release up until now; so I’m just gonna start putting more and more projects out. As soon as I release one I’m gonna be working trying to get the other one ready to release for my fans and the critics. The next album is entitled “Relentless,” and it is slated to be released Summer 2009 CHAMP: This album is being released through Jack Move Entertainment. Who do we got featured on the album production-wise and artist-wise? Jacki-O: A lot of my songs on my upcoming project, I don’t have a lot of featured people. Production-wise I have Tony Kelly on the Relentless album, and I can’t tell who’s going to be on the album. I’m just working on getting it ready to be put out there. Now that a lot of progress is going towards the digital realm, I am in a position to release more than one album while still releasing more of my songs digitally. CHAMP: You also got a book coming out. When is that coming out and what can we expect in this piece of literature? Jacki-O: It’s actually an autobiography. It too, is called Relentless, the same title as my next album and you can expect real people, as well as, some people that I’ve encountered in the industry from guys to girls and everything that came along with that. Just me growing up and seeing things in a different prospective, and speaking on what I had to go through thus far to make it so far. Mainly, speaking real and deeply on a lot of things and experiences. CHAMP: You hail from Miami, Liberty City to be correct. When I think of Miami I think of it being hot 24/7, because we in Toronto so it’s always cold up here and all I see in Miami is women walking around in bikinis with blue water. Now I know that’s not it so what’s your view on Miami and especially now with it bubbling on the music scene? Jacki-O: As far as the women Miami, is always hot. Year round the temperature is average about 85 and that’s year round and that’s on the cold days. Temperature-wise it is always hot. As far as music goes in Miami, it hasn’t always been just hip hop there is meringue, salsa, and all genres of music. You got a lot of African people, Jamaicans, Haitians, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, so you get a whole conglomerate of different talents and music coming from Miami. As far as the hip hop scene, Miami is just beginning to get recognized for its talent on the hip hop scene, which is a crazy look for Miami. CHAMP: Of course Miami is the home of Rick Ross and I remember hearing a joint of him spitting on the Mrs. Officer joint saying that he remembers writing for you and how he paid for some lypo. What was he talking about in regards to that freestyle? Jacki-O: Actually he has a situation that’s going on with 50 Cent that’s on a whole other level. Being a women in the industry and having to deal with guys and there’s enough guys in the industry and for him to pick on girls…He picks his fights and he picked that (50 Cent) and unfortunately he has to deal with that. Diss records…I don’t entertain diss records. I only entertain the truth and the truth is that I’m here and I’m gonna remain here and ain’t nobody gonna tell me I can’t do what I do. CHAMP: Now of course you had mentioned the whole situation with him and Fif. There are rumors that you and Fif have been talking as well.Is there any situation of you maybe going over to G-Unit? Jacki-O: We’ve chopped it up quite a few times. I can’t really say that it’s going to be my next home, but we still in talks of it. CHAMP: Going back to him and Ross, there’s also rumors that you’re gonna also assist him with some vital information that may finish Ross for good is that also true? Jacki-O: I don’t think 50 need my help to do anything that he’s doing. I honestly don’t have anything to do with it. That’s between two men and I don’t think 50 need my help in doing what he’s doing. CHAMP: Now I gotta ask a question for the fellas. You’re definitely an outspoken woman. If a dudes trying to holla at you. What’s the criteria homeboys gotta fit before you give him the number or any type of play? Jacki-O: Well I ain’t gonna let him have it if he doesn’t have it. As far as his certain criteria…Right now I’m just focused on my music. I’m not even tryna entertain a man into giving him some play. I understand your question, but to be frank with you, if I were on that and looking for a man which I’m not ‘cause I’m so focused and it’s what they say? Money over bitches? Well its money over niggas. He definitely gotta love his moms’, smart, he can be a thug but he gotta be a smart corporate thug and have something going on for himself and he has to be full of ambition. That’s just the minimum requirement. CHAMP: Going back to the album Little Red Riding Hood. What is it that you want people to take away from this album after hearing it. What message are you trying to send across with this album? Jacki-O: That was really just to say I’m back. This isn’t really the album I’m sending out. My next album Relentless is going to be all new music. Little Red Riding Hood is like the album before the album that’s why a lot of material that I put on the album is mixtape material. This album is going to be the album my fans have been waiting for and it will be all new music. CHAMP: There was also a situation between you and Foxy Brown. Has that been resolved since or is there still some friction between you two? Jacki-O: I haven’t seen her and I haven’t spoken to her. To be honest with you I’m not on that but I wasn’t on that in the beginning, it just was a situation that unfortunately ended the way it did but who’s to say it won’t happen again when you’re dealing with different people. I’m not on that no more. I’m just trying to put my music out. CHAMP: Now if I told you right now to bring 4 other female artists to ride with you for a super group. Who would you want to be on your squad? Jacki-O: Remy…umm….I don’t wanna be calling names out see there’s a thing about females. They’ll use this to throw in your face again. I’m a cool person when it comes to working with other females but a lot of females ain’t cool when it comes to working with other females. Right now to even say I’d put up a super group, there has to be some sort of loyalty, trust and they definitely have to be on the same page, because when you dealing with super groups it’s just like any other group there’s gonna be problems. Everybody has their own thoughts and creative input on how they think things should be when things don’t go they way. I definitely would have to vibe with people and see if this is even something that can be done before I waste my time and energy, before they waste their time and energy to try and put a super group together. When I was working with Remy and Shawna, I definitely had a chance to see their passion for it and it’s the same that I have. It didn’t work out the way we planned but it was a good experience. I can’t really say who I’d want to be in the group but I would say someone from the South, someone from the Mid-west, someone from New York, so we can really as whole group cover everywhere. CHAMP: I know we got the Relentless album and book coming out. What else do we got next? Jacki-O: I don’t know. Sky’s the limit. I don’t have any limitations on what I’ll do next. I’m just putting it in. I can’t really say as far as the album that is a definite and the book that’s a definite. A few movie scripts that I’ve gotten hopefully will go into production and actually make it happen. I’ll be able to speak on that when that time comes but right now I’m just workin’. My fans can tune in to me and my movements on www.myspace.com/jackiomusic. And I want to just say thank you again to Champ Magazine for your support, as well as, my loyal fans. See you all soon!!!!!!
