Slim Thug Interview CHAMP: What are you up to at the current moment? SLIM THUG: I’ve been on the road on a promo tour for about three weeks. I’m getting ready to do my thing. CHAMP: Now the “Boss of All Bosses” drops on March 24th, how do you feel about the anticipation right now? SLIM THUG: It’s good man. I’ve been leaking out a few of the songs and getting a lot of good responses on it. CHAMP: The single I Run is getting mad play across the globe. Definitely a big track, which was produced by Jim Jonsin. What was your main focus when selecting the single you were gonna come out with? Slim Thug: It had to have groove to it and it had to be a street record. I run the streets all night and day is like an anthem, and I was looking for something like that. It kinda explained what I’ve been doing so it’s good. CHAMP: Now who do we got featured on the album artist-wise and production-wise as well? Slim Thug: Oh man we got a lot of producers. I wanted to work with a lot of producers, but big producers we got Jim Jonsin. On the feature side I got UGK. I got two with Pimp before he passed. I got Scarface on the album and I really wanted to just do a Houston movement, and try to bring Houston back. I got a song called Welcome to H-Town with everybody from the city like Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire and everybody outta Houston. It’s like 8 mans long. CHAMP: Now being from Houston, a lot of people said that Houston had the torch and at the blink of an eye it switched. Do you agree with that and what do you think happened to the Houston movement? Slim Thug: I think when we got the major deals, the labels started getting greedy and started making us work together and it kinda like messed us up. In my situation I don’t really play that game. This is my second solo right now and when Paul and Mike and Cham was coming out, I wasn’t even around ‘cause I was going through a label situation and trying to get out of mine so I’m just here returning, and hopefully with this we’ll be back on the map like it was before you know what I’m sayin? CHAMP: Now on a side note what a lot of people don’t know is that there was a story that Lupe was telling in the Hip Hop Saved My Life joint and it was actually about you due to you inspiring him. What was your reaction when you heard that track and what’s your relationship like with Lupe? Slim Thug: Oh man Lupe’s cool man. What it was was my DJ made me hear it first and I was like man that’s crazy, it sounds kinda like my story and then he actually told me that he was actually inspired by my story. It was wild man, Lupe cool. I got nothing but love and respect for him. CHAMP: Also on a side note, a lot of people weren’t too sure, and were a bit sceptical about your relationship with Latoya Lucket. Are you guys still together and how’s that whole situation? Slim Thug: Nah we not together but we still friends. We cool, but we not together. We just broke up like 3 or 4 years ago. CHAMP: Got you Got you. Back to your first album Already Platinum is definitely a dope album. What are the listeners gonna witness in terms of a difference between Boss of All Bosses and Already Platinum? Slim Thug: The difference on this is that mainly it’s not featuring Pharell. The last album was featuring Pharell. Me and him did the whole album together. On this one he ain’t on anything. That’s gon’ be the biggest difference. I’ma still be doing me and it ain’t no beef or nothing with Pharell. We can work on the next album but we couldn’t do nothing together on this one but on the next one we gon’ do something fo’ sho’. CHAMP: There’s a huge track called The Woodgrain Wheels. Is that gonna be on Boss of all Bosses or was that just a street track/mixtape joint? Slim Thug: It was like a mixtape joint. It was supposed to be but I didn’t wanna have people hear me like that CHAMP: I wanna get into the Boss Hogg Outlawz. What can we expect from them this year man? Slim Thug: That’s gonna be crazy. We got J Dawg, Killa Kyleon and the rest coming right behind so it’s gonna go down like that. CHAMP: What do you want people to take from this album? Slim Thug: That it’s me. I put this album together without no help from no A&Rs or nothing. I just went in there and did the records that I wanted to do so at the end of the day it’s the truth. CHAMP: Of course we’re entering the second quarter of ’09. What else can we expect from you homey? Slim Thug: I’ma be right here at the end of the year you know what I’m sayin’? CHAMP: When can we expect you up here in Toronto man? Slim Thug: I’m ready to come. Once we get this album out I’m on my way man
