Nu Jerzey Devil Interview CHAMP: What’s Goodie with you? What are you up to at the current moment homey? Nu Jerzey Devil: Everything’s real good man. I’m just out here loving life. I’m in the West coast right now in L.A., holdin’ it down and just doing me man CHAMP: Got you. Now you’re Black Wall Street's head producer and you’re the one who makes a lot of the beats that the Black Wall Street cats be on? Nu Jerzey Devil: Yeah definitely definitely. We also got other producers like Tre Beats, EP, but I’m the head dude over there and I make sure everything’s correct before it leaves the studio you dig? CHAMP: No doubt, so I mean how crazy was it to make the switch from Cedar Ave to Cedar block? Nu Jerzey Devil: Ah man, moving to Cali was the biggest change of my life. Coming from the East coast that was a dramatic super change, but I would never change it any other way. It was a blessing. CHAMP: You’re gonna be dropping The Devils Playground. What was the meaning behind the title? Nu Jerzey Devil: The Devils Playground is about loving and living life. I’m out here enjoying the fruits of my hard work and it’s pretty much just me letting the people know how I get down CHAMP: Now you came out with the single "Different Girls" featuring Weezy. How’d you guys connect and how was the chemistry in the booth? Nu Jerzey Devil: It was phenomenal man. I knew Weezy before I started rapping so we was always cool, so when I brought the song to him, he automatically loved it and jumped on it right away. He’s just crazy. He don’t write at all. I reached out to him and then 15 minutes later he went in the booth. He always told me (him and Game) to make that transition like “You got the look, you got the style”, and I said fuck it. It’s what it is and it’s poppin’ right now. CHAMP: Got you. Now I remember seeing the making of the video. I might be late on it, but did the actual video end up dropping? Nu Jerzey Devil: No no not yet. We tryina schedule all that. With Weezys busy schedule, it’s kinda hard to keep up, but we actually working on that right now and hopefully we’ll drop it real soon, but that was the making of the actual song, like a session. That was in The Hit Factory in Miami. That’s where Weezy lives at and he be in the studio all day, but the real video coming real soon man. The world gon’ see it and we gon’ knock it out. CHAMP: Now who do we got featured on the upcoming album? Nu Jerzey Devil: So far of course I got the big homey Game, Raheem Devaughn, Ne-Yo, obviously Lil Wayne, a couple others, I’m just tryina get people to know who I am and I’m just tryina keep it real limited and also the people on my album are people I have relationships with. I don’t really like to do songs with people that I really don’t know. The vibes gotta be right. I try to keep it real simple.
CHAMP: Now how’s the Heaven or Hell clothing line doing? Nu Jerzey Devil: It’s good man. I kept it online just to make it real exclusive but it’s been doing real good actually. We actually about to launch our new spring lines, so look out for that on heavenorhell.com. That’s just another venture of me branching out. Hip Hop is fashion, it’s a lifestyle so I’m just tryina get all the elements of hip hop. I’ve been djing, now I’m a producer, now I’m rappin’, I’m hip hop period, man. CHAMP: On a swag level what’s the target customer you tryina get at with this line? Nu Jerzey Devil: I mean you can’t make the clothing make you, you gotta make the clothing. You gotta swag it out yourself. I might go in the skateboard shop and wear some timbs or something else but I’ma just provide that hot clothing line and you just gotta make it work for you CHAMP: How was the whole transition from the ones and twos to the mic? Nu Jerzey Devil: It was kinda fairly easy. When I went out with Game and just being around him and just seeing him so I learned a lot from him, from Weezy, and just years of being in this game man. It wasn’t really hard man. When you know what you want , what needs to be heard, and what needs to be done, it won’t be that hard man. CHAMP: Now what’s Art of the Devil? Nu Jerzey Devil: That’s my first mixtape as an artist man. I had to go in and get that off my chest. I got Yung Berg on there; I got a distribution single on there. I got G Malone from Cash Money and a couple people on there. J Roc from Warner Bros. I’m tryna keep it hood. That’s where I came from. I also got Mr. Red Carpet coming in April. I’m workin’ man I’m going in CHAMP: You’re in Miami right now. I mean how are the women out there b? Nu Jerzey Devil: Miami’s a beautiful thing man especially for the women. It’s kinda hard to say. You just gotta go there and see it yourself. I can’t even explain it man. Miami’s definitely one of the hottest cities in the country so if you haven’t been to Miami, definitely go check it. The women hear are phenomenal. I ain’t gon front I came to LA and they puttin’ out some competition. LA’s showin’ a lot of skin right now so I don’t know (laughs) CHAMP: That’s it man! You gotta get me out there for sure and let me do some “Day in the Life of Nu Jerzey Devil” segment Nu Jerzey Devil: I’ma do it real big and show you me being me and you gon’ love it CHAMP: What’s poppin with Livelihood Entertainment and that whole situation? Nu Jerzey Devil: Everything’s good man. I’m definitely looking for the right artist for that but that’s definitely my label. I see this as a necessity. Me being who I am and me doing everything I did, from the business to the music side I’m definitely tryina bring a label to the forefront. At the end of the day it’s just me tryina be creative CHAMP: Now your joint aint even comin’ out on BWS. It'll actually be on Livelihood and SoBe Entertainment. Why’s that? Nu Jerzey Devil: It’s just me stepping out my zone. There’s a lot of things going on at Black Wall Street. I just kinda wanted to expand it rather than bring everything in one pile. Me stepping out of my zone it’s just me expanding the whole brand. I’m Black Wall Street all day everyday. It’s branded in me I could never leave that. Just like how Jim Jones got Byrd Gang and Juelz got Skull Gang it’s just me branching out. There’s no love lost with nobody. Everybody’s still 100. I’m still Black Wall Street. I gotta step out and do me for a moment. CHAMP: Now you being in Miami. Of course that being the home of Rick Ross as well. I wanna know what’s Miami sayin’ about the whole situation with Rick Ross’ feud with 50 and of course BWS and 50 have their issues if I may be mistaken right? Nu Jerzey Devil: Ah yeah. The whole Rick Ross and 50 thing, everybody’s just taking it as comedy man. As long as no blood is shed and no real violence come out it, it ain’t nothing but hip hop beef and it’s a competitive sport man. That’s how hip hop started so as long as it don’t go something crazy and nothing drastic, I’m cool, I’m lovin’ it, its entertainment and I don’t see nobody tryina take it crazy. It is what its. CHAMP: When can we expect you to come out to Toronto man? Nu Jerzey Devil: Soon! We actually doing the Black Wall Street tour in Canada real soon and we’re actually going through the process right now. So definitely check the online website. We’ll post it soon once we confirm. We’ll definitely be in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, all that. We gon’ run through the whole Canada CHAMP: That’s what’s up. What else can we expect from Nu Jerzey Devil in 09? Nu Jerzey Devil: Expect the unexpected man. You might see me in the movies on that silver screen. Definitely check me out man. Check my blogs, stay tune I got the new website Jerzey.com so I have all my updates on there and y’all can follow me on there. Also check out therealbws.com. We got everything poppin’ on there. I’m movin’ man expect the unexpected and don’t expect nothing less but the best.
