The “Pump It Up” man himself, Joe Budden came back with the same flow after six years but also came with a different mindset on his second album after leaving Def Jam titled “Padded Room”. His openness throughout the whole compilation set him apart from what is being done in Hip Hop right now. Joe Budden took a different route and signed with an independent label, Amalgam Digital and teamed up with a whole new set of producers like The Klasix and Blastah Beatz.
1. Now I Lay
This track was a very nice introduction to the album. The beat was fast paced produced by Blastah Beatz and it brought me back to Budden’s old sound with the “Mic Check One Two One Two”.
2. The Future Ft. The Game I really liked this track, its positive and a head banger. The Game added a good touch to it.
3. If I Gotta Go
I love the light beat on this produced by Klasix and the chorus is catchy and heavy at the same time. Joe Budden’s flow is really good on this.
4. Don’t Make Me
The beat from Blastah Beatz is very unique and it has an old school feel to it.
5. Blood on the Walls
The words on this track are very truthful. The track is talking about being motivated, not stopping. Joe Budden gets very personal on it and talks about what he’s going to do next.
6. In My Sleep
Good beat, good concept, and you can tell Budden’s been working hard on perfecting his flow on this track.
7. Exxxes
This track should be rated R for the words in it. It has a lot of sexual innuendo and it basically calls out most females and the things they do. It explains nothing but the truth. I love it.
8. I Couldn’t Help It
Joe slows it down a bit with this one and you can say its an apology letter and lets on in on the fast life with groupies, hoes, and everything that comes with it.
9. Adrenaline
Very fast paced, and you can tell Budden did a 360 with this one and did the opposite of rap, ROCK. It’s fun and unique. I would love to see a video for this just because I wouldn’t think he would do something like this. I dig it.
10. Happy Holidays ft.Emanny
Emanny has a good voice but I didn’t really like this song at all. It’s saying a lot about the holidays and stuff I just think they should have taken this off on the album and use it for a better time. The words are good but just not suitable for the theme of the album.
11. Do Tell
The beat is melancholy and sad. This track sort of fought with the lyrics and it caused me to lose focus on what was being said. I had to listen to it twice. It’s heartfelt and serious. I guess it goes with what’s going on in the world. Not my cup of tea though. It’s good to listen to during hard times though.
12. Angel In My Life
This track goes very well with the title of the album. I like the skit at the beginning. It wraps up the album in a nutshell. The beat is okay.
13. Pray For Me
This is what grabbed my attention on the whole compilation. It’s well done and complete. There’s a higher voice in the track I don’t know who it could be but this is where Budden really talks about what he did wrong in the past.
