Point Blank – Point Blank Review
TILT ROCK RECORDS/KOCH ENTERTAINMENT
The Boy Hollywood

INTRO
The album starts off with what sounds as a voiceover of a documentary talking about Regent Project.

BORN & RAISED IN THE GHETTO
The crew spits about the origins and trials and tribulations growing up in the housing projects of Regent Park. Definitely an emotionally felt track for all people from the hood to unite too.

VICTORY
The victory is being celebrated on this track, as the group spits about making it despite all the bull they’ve been through. Not too sure if this is an original joint, but the production is definitely big. I felt that this should’ve been the intro track to start off the album for sure, but the tracks still dope.

CASE CLOSED
The beat on this is definitely eerie, but the bass is heavy on this joint. On this joint, it seems like it’s a freestyle type track. Didn’t really get an underlying theme for this track.

Game Got Deep
Loving the horn melody on this joint. On this joint the listener hears a bit about hustling in the Dot and how deep the game’s getting these days. Definitely a dope track.

T.O 2 O.T
THIS IS MY JOINT ON THE ALBUM!! This is the joint for Toronto bumpin’ right now! The beat is definitely bumpin’ and brings you back to that late 90’s  hip hop essence. Point Blank walks you through the grind of making that paper from Toronto to Outta Town. BIG BIG TRACK!!

INTERLUDE
On this interlude y’all get educated on more info on Regent Park and the development stages of the first hood in Canada and what is rumored to actually be the first hood in North America period.

MAKE A LIVING Ft. Monique Spence

This is a real talk and even motivational track. This has that J.Lo and LL Cool J joint sample.  Monique Spence helps out on this track with the vocals and does a good job. The track basically talks about how hard the streets could be and that everyone’s gotta make a living on these streets.

PIMP SHIT
This sounds like it may be a single off the album. The beat has that 90’s Canadian hip hop feel. Basically a track about that pimp shit and verifying that Pimps gotta be pimping and not being pimped by woman. May raise a lot of eyebrows from a lot of shorties.

STREET CODE
Loving the sample on this joint. Got that soul feel to it. Point Blank definitely follows the street code on this joint. They basically talk about certain situations that were to arise and according to the Street Code how they would deal with situations.

SOMETHING NEW
Starts off with an interlude of when Regent Park was finally built and established. On this joint the message is the fact they’ve been on the block and streets and seen the same things poppin’ off over and over again that it’s about time to find something new.

Only God Knows Ft. Mark McKay
This was another single off the album that Point Blank dropped prior to the release of this album. Very mellow track as Point Blanks admits that only God knows what’s gonna really happen with not only their lives but any other person’s life as tomorrow is never promised, and we’ll never know what may be next.

UNHOLY
Big Track! Over a dope piano melody Point Blank spits about the streets once again. From the feds always up to no good to Tilt Rock, and life on the streets.

SENSITIVE THUGS
Looks like someone or a bunch of people got PB upset on this joint. This is basically a diss to someone but the question is who? Talks about certain people snitching, and getting locked up and being in  PC. Point Blank sounds like they sending out warning shots to someone. Really got the streets thinking “ who they talking ‘bout?”.

NIGGAZ NOT TO APPROACH
The title speaks for itself. On this joint you basically don’t wanna be crossing the line with Point Blank. They speak on some street sh**, from the hustling aspect to artillery one can expect when trying to approach PB.

BORN & RAISED IN THE GHETTO REMIX
This got a West Indies twist to it and features Kardinal Offishall. Has a different sound, but the tracks is alright.

The album is definitely a product the hip hop heads of Toronto have been anticipating, and definitely want to see some history made with this album. A lot of mellow joints on this album, and a lot of real talk joints. Cats may think this album has too many references to “Street Life” and negativity, but the album is a reflection of what they know, who they are, and what they are surrounded by. I loved the fact that Point Blank did not succumb to the pressures of making a commercial album and kept it real gutter on this album. My joint on this album is definitely T.O 2 O.T, which is actually going to have a video coming very very soon so look out for that. Definitely pick up the album and let’s keep the music in Canada moving!!
