SPOTLIGHT: ASHLEY
CHAMP MAGAZINE
The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP: What’s up Ashley? What are you up to at the current moment?

Ashley: I’ve just woken up and I’m under the weather so I’m tryina get better, and I’m supposed to have a session in the studio so I’m just sipping  a little tea and I’ll get better and do what I do best lol

CHAMP: Now a lot of people may not know, but you not only model but like you just mentioned, you sing as well. How long have you been making music for?

Ashley: I actually moved to Atlanta when I was about 14 and I was in two girl groups. After that, I just loved it and loved everything about the music industry and I just wanted to pursue my dreams and take it further, so I decided to go solo and that’s where I’m at now. I’ve always loved music, always loved entertaining in general from acting to singing, to modeling. Anything having to do with being on stage or in front of people.

CHAMP: Is there any comparisons that people compare you to?

Ashley: Some people say Christina Milian and Ciara a lot. I don’t know why lol

CHAMP: We’re in an era where music these days is heading in a new futuristic direction. Would you say that’s the type of music you’re trying to come out with or are you trying to bring back that old r & b sound that’s missing from the game?

Ashley: Well… I’m gonna say both because I’m definitely with the new movement. I love Kanye’s movement with his Heartbreaks and 808s, Ciara has a futuristic thing going on as well so I’m actually doing both but I won’t go too left were people won’t be able to groove my music and recognize what’s going on because some people go too left I think and people are like “what is this?”. You gotta stay somewhat in the ground so people can be familiar with your music and you wanna reach other crowds as well. I’m not looking to just get the teenage youth. I want their moms to be able to listen to my music in the car or in the house, or wherever they are with them so you gotta dibble dabble both.

CHAMP: Now I’m sure the homeys are gonna saee a few pics of you right now and are gonna say you look familiar. Where can people recognize your pretty face from?

Ashley: Lol. I was in the “Soulja Girl” video and the “Show Off” video, the “5000 Ones” video. My Myspace page is very popular as well. I have over 150, 000 friends on there so I mean, I’ve been doing some things and tryina get my presence out there so I should be recognizable.

CHAMP: Was that part of a strategic move to enhance your career?

Ashley: Actually, No. I don’t really ask people like that but I do network on Myspace though. I’m a very heavt networker. I go to different events and go out to different studios and very intrigued by the industry and what everybody’s doing so my name got out there pretty quickly and especially because I’m young and I know a lot of people. I guess people just gravitate towards what I was trying to do since I’m so young.

CHAMP: You just mentioned you’re a youngin’. How old are you?

Ashley: I turn 18 in August.

CHAMP: In terms of projects that you’re working on,  is there anything you’ve already put out  already or something you got in the works, like a compilation  or maybe even an album coming out shortly.

Ashley: I have a first single out with Nicki Minaj called “Tempo”. You can find that on Imeem. You can actually see us doing a live interview on YouTube. I have a single out with her and it’s a buzz single not an actual single just so people can know about me. I am currently working on my album and were working on a few things in the studio.

CHAMP: Now the joint with Nicki Minaj. How’s the chemistry like between you guys?

Ashley:. It was wonderful. I love it. I was actually out of town and I came back and my manager was like “Yeah we got somebody on the record” and he’s like “Yeah Nicki Minaj” and I was ecstatic, I was like “Whaat you got Nicki Minaj?” So I went to the studio, I heard it, it was wonderful. She was actually at my label studio recording and I went there and we clicked instantly. She’s a sweetheart and I still talk to her and she’s just so cool. She has a very loving type of vibe about her. You might think she’s like so Brooklyn, she’s hood, she’s street, and don’t get me wrong she is but she was very friendly, very lovely and she’s a very nice girl.

CHAMP: Like you said. You’re working on an album. Is there anyone you’re looking forward to working with on this album?

Ashley: There’s a few people that I’d love to work with. I would love to do something with The-Dream. He’s hot right now. I love everything that he’s putting out? He’s on fire go pick up his album if you don’t got it. I would love to do stuff with Trey Songz, he has a phenomenal voice, and I have a crush on him lol

CHAMP: Awwwwww lol

Ashley: I’d love to do a song with Trey, but really I would love to do a lot of collaborations. I love working with people who do the same thing that I do.

CHAMP: A lot of the fellas wanna know your status in terms of whether you’re involved with anyone or not. What is Ashleys status?

Ashley: Lol. I am single at the current time. I mean, let’s say that I’m not looking but I’m looking. Focusing on my music right now and my goals, and my career.

CHAMP: Now let’s say a guy happens to just you know, walk by or happens to just be around the same area as you. What are the qualities you’d be looking for in a guy?

Ashley: I mean, definitely somebody that has goals and knows where they’re going. I hate a dude that when you ask them what do they like to do, and they have the most wackest answer in the world. Just a cool dude and I’m a goof ball, I loving watching funny movies, so they have to have a great sense of humor, and just be fun.

CHAMP: We’re in Toronto, Canada. When can we expect Ashley to come up here and rock a show or just hang out, I mean a lot of people come out hear for Caribana, so can we spot you there?

Ashley: Ooooooh…I might have to get that up and running. I would love to come up to Canada.

CHAMP: What else do we got planned for Ashley for the rest of the year?

Ashley: Basically I just try to get the album finished up. I’m tryina dibble dabble to more acting. Do more modeling. I just don’t like to sing. I love to do everything. I would just try to make my career as big and as wonderful as I can possibly do it. I’ma try and do anything and everything.
