SPOTLIGHT: DAVID RUSH
CHAMP MAGAZINE
The Boy Hollywood

CHAMP: What are you up to at the current moment?

David Rush: I’m currently in the studio with a producer by the name of Drop down here in Miami.

CHAMP: Definitely wanna get people in Toronto aware of your work and your talent as well and get a brief background on the influences in music you had when you wanted to enter the game?

David Rush: We was rocking with Busta Rhymes. He was a big influence Wu-Tang was kicking. I’m an 80’s baby so there was a lot of influences when I was coming up.

CHAMP: In terms of deciding to pick up the pen and actually start making music yourself, when was that decision made?

David Rush: I’ve been doing music since I was a kid man. Since I was about seven years old. When I was in school playing parts in little plays I was rapping and doing something always music orientated. I was never writing I was always freestyling and my cousins always told me I need to be writing. One time I finally sat down and started writing my first song and became hooked from then on. I’d say eight or nine years old is when it began for me.

CHAMP:As you were writing and developing your craft and things like that, I’m pretty sure there were some projects you were coming out with so if you can hit the people with The David Rush Discography

David Rush: The first mixtape I ever dropped was The Hood Love Me Vol.1, Married to the Mob, Who Better Than Boss?, and I started putting out these mixtapes on my own and buying blank cds. I copped Pro Tools and learned it in college and then from there I just started dropping mixtapes, and after that I landed in to a club promoter in Jersey who connected my with a producer named Sounds. Me and him were working together real heavy. I started making original music and “Go Girl” was created in like ’06. That was my first record that really sold and was put out on a national level.

CHAMP: Of course there’s Moon Music. If you can explain to the people what that’s all about?

David Rush: Moon Music is what I call my music. We call it Moon Music because we try to go above and beyond normal things when we record, when we make beats, when we write for other artists, we wanna take it to another level and take everything to the moon.

CHAMP: The name David Rush. Is that your given name or a name you adopted as an MC?

David Rush: My rap name before David Rush was Young Boss. That was my name for a long time. Everybody know me as Young Boss from the “Go Girl” record. David Rush came about when I signed my deal with Universal Republic after I inked with Mr. 305  Inc. We was thinking about changing the name because my music changed. My real actual government name is David and Rush comes from…I’m on dialysis everyday for four hours about six days a week. Also when I stick needles in to my arm and in order for the blood to circulate  they had to do surgery on my arm for my veins and my artery to push my blood to my arms and they call it “The Thrill” or “The Rush” so that’s where the Rush in my name came from. David Rush is a real name, it’s real things, and I try to make good music so it’s definitely a relative name for me.

CHAMP: In terms of the sound, who are some of the artists a lot of cats compare you to?

David Rush: It’s kinda hard to compare me because of the fact that I do anything, sing, rap. I do a little bit of everything. I get a lot of comparison to Fat Joe the way that I rap. As far as harmonizing and stuff like that, I get a little bit of a Black Eyed Peas flavor. There’s a lot of people that influence my music. I try not to have a lane or genre. It could be pop, rock, hiphop, whatever. Try to make it as different as possible and try to touch any lane possible. When people hear me, I want them to think it’s a new fresh sound and I do get that a lot.

CHAMP: You’ve been actually working with Pitbull, and what role is he playing in your Career?

David Rush: Shout out to Mr. 305! He’s most definitely my boss chico. Me and him have been working together and he brought me in the 305 team in Miami out here working on some stuff. The role that he plays is just opening up the world to me and showing me new things and he got me in Miami working with different producers and different artists and basically becoming part of this whole movement. He taught me you can’t depend on labels and you gotta make things happen for yourself.

CHAMP: You got a banger out with Kevin Rudolf and Pitbull as well. How’s the response to the joint so far?

David Rush:The response is crazy the original version was done before with my man E. Down in Miami, New York, Texas area, it’s getting a lot of love and the response from the crowd is  crazy. It charted number 36 on the iTunes charts and we just going on from there man.

CHAMP: Do we got a video coming for that track as well?

David Rush: Definitely got a video coming late April. Gonna be shooting that down in Miami and we’re working on that. We should be shooting the video shortly. This will be my 2nd video, but my first video for my featured song.

CHAMP: In terms of projects, what do we got in store?

David Rush: Definitely dropping Moon Music. Moon Music will dropping late April, top of May. All original record like a mixtape street album. Feeltherush.tv.

CHAMP: Feeltherush.tv. What’s that sight all about?

David Rush: Feeltherush.tv is basically a social network where people can come and put blogs up and basically keep up with me. That’s my own personal playground really man. If I do stuff in the studio, or I’m around some people, I make a video and put it up there. That’s my youtube and that’s my myspace. You’ll know David Rush better on Feeltherush.tv.

CHAMP: What else can we expect from David Rush?

David Rush: Just expect to see me everywhere man. This is gonna be a big year for a lot of things and a lot of people. The recession got people getting their money right. I’m looking to be on everybodys records that I can be on and every event I can be at. The grind in 09 is definitely what we about and we taking it to the moon.
